Katrina Hexagon

Someone had a similar motif, and needed to have it reverse-engineered so she could finish the blanket. This is what I came up with.

Materials

The sample was made with Lily Sugar'n Cream (Delft Blue and Rainbow Bright). From side to side, the motif measures 7.25"/18cm, and from point to point, it's about 8.75"/22.5cm. Nine rounds of the main color, then 2 rounds of the contrasting color.

Hook that gives you a fabric you like. The sample was made with a US H-8/5mm hook and a conscious effort to crochet loosely.

Instructions

US crochet terms are used.

Chain 4, join in the first chain to form a ring

Round 1: ch2, *sc into ring, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 6sc separated by ch1 spaces (looks circular at this point))

Round 2: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 12sc separated by ch1 spaces (looks lumpy/circular at this point))

Round 3: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 18sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc (looks slightly hexagonal at this point))

****Basically, from here on in, the corners are two sc in a ch1 space, and everything else is 1 sc in a ch1 space, and every sc is separated by ch1. 9 rounds of the main color, then 2 rounds of the contrast edging color.****

Round 4: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) twice, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 24sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 5: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 3 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 30sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 6: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 4 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 36sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 7: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 5 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 42sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 8: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 6 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 48sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 9: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 7 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 54sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Switch to edging color

Round 10: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 8 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 60sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)

Round 11: ch2, sc into same space, ch1, *(sc into next ch1 space, ch1) 9 times, sc into next ch1 space, ch1, sc into same space, ch1* 5 times, join with a sl st into ch2 space (= 66sc separated by ch1 spaces, with distinct corners formed by sc-ch1-sc)
